Our commitment

Small Ideas. Big Tech (Social Contract) is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible. We aim to meet the needs of people who use assistive technologies, people who navigate by keyboard, and people who need content that can be resized or read aloud.

Standards we follow

We strive to conform to WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 at Level AA, in line with the UK Equality Act 2010, the ADA, and the EU Accessibility Act where applicable. Our goal is that our site is:

  • Perceivable — You can see or hear the content (e.g. text alternatives for images, sufficient contrast, captions where relevant).
  • Operable — You can use the site with a keyboard, with enough time and no unexpected traps (e.g. skip links, visible focus, Escape to close modals).
  • Understandable — Content and navigation are clear (e.g. labels on forms, helpful error messages, consistent layout).
  • Robust — The site works with assistive technologies (e.g. semantic HTML, ARIA where needed).

What we've done

We have implemented many accessibility improvements on this website, including:

  • Skip link to main content for keyboard and screen reader users
  • Visible focus styles on links, buttons, and form controls
  • Semantic structure (headings, landmarks, labelled forms)
  • Keyboard support: full navigation and interaction; Escape closes modals
  • Modals with correct roles and labels for screen readers
  • Meaningful alt text for images where appropriate
  • Page language set in HTML
  • Form errors announced to screen readers

Known issues

We test the site with automated tools (e.g. Lighthouse, axe) and manual checks (keyboard, zoom, screen readers). Some issues may still remain. We document and prioritise them as we find them. Known limitations we are aware of or may address next include:

  • Some decorative or repeated images may have generic alt text; we continue to refine these.
  • At very high zoom (e.g. 200%+) some layouts may reflow; we test and fix where possible.
  • Third-party content (e.g. embedded widgets or links to external sites) may not meet the same level of accessibility; we do not control those environments.

Roadmap

We are committed to improving accessibility over time. Our roadmap includes:

  • Regular automated and manual accessibility checks as we add or change features
  • Fixing any new issues found in testing or reported by users
  • Keeping this statement and the “Known issues” section up to date
  • Considering WCAG 2.2 Level AA criteria as we design new pages and components
